The Platinum League is an unlimited player league with positions determined by points gained from predicting 8 weekly game outcomes over 32 weeks. It started in August at the beginning of the English domestic season and runs until May, the last week coinciding with the conclusion of The Premier League. After 31 weeks, all points are reset for the top 10 players, who fight it out on the final day to decide the champion. Other players can still play that week but only the top 10 will be in contention for the title. Those players are also drawn a home team each (determined by Premier League and Platinum League order - i.e. 1st placed in our league as of Week 31 gets the team placed highest in The Premier League playing at home and so forth) and should players be tied on points to decide the champion, the player whose home team wins will become champion. Should that not decide anything, then it goes to the player highest in the league as of Week 31, of all the players who are joint 1st after the final week's points are counted.

Players compete for the league trophy throughout the season, predicting the results of matches from a variety of leagues including The Premier League, The Championship, The WSL and other domestic leagues both in Europe and beyond!

David Burtenshaw is our current defending champion!

This season, we delivered to him The Platinum League Trophy, pictured below and whilst we offered him a multi-pack of the beverage of his choice, he kindly chose to donate the equivalent value to charity.

Next season The Platinum League's current last day format will be scrapped, to make way for a Premier League Trophy to bring exciting action to the final day of the Premier League. You can still play in our Platinum League but if you're new you may prefer to try our brand new CHAMPIONSHIP.

THE PLATINUM LEAGUE

20 Rounds - From 8 weekly games chosen by PG8, each player predicts 'home win', 'away win', or 'draw', obtaining 1 point for each correct prediction. The winner is the player who either has the most points, or wins based on away wins, then home wins, then draws, then whoever acquired the points first. If still tied at season's end then its first to acquire points, fewest non-submissions and then head to head on first to acquire an away win, first to acquire a home win and first to acquire a draw. If still tied than we have play off matches.

For this season, the top 2 players will be promoted to Season 4's Platinum League (2025/26) with the winner also picking up a trophy. The next 6 eligible players will enter play offs to then confirm 3 more players Platinum League status next season. This game will be running on our brand new app with football friend Daniel Waddington completing fixture selection and results updating duties along the way.

Our season started with a 1 week Super Cup followed by the 32 week Platinum League. A League Cup, FA Cup and Champions Cup, all weekly competitions, take place to coincide with real cup finals and there are 4 additional summer tournament qualifying weeks occupying the international breaks where players attempt to reach our summer tournament. Trophies are available for the league and all cup competitions.

Each year the summer tourney is based on either the Men's or Women's World Cup or EUROS with the winner, every year, able to keep the trophy in their home, but tradition maintains they return it each year in preparation for engraving and delivery to the next winner. We also have two breaks at Christmas and Easter with those filled by promo events. This means weekly games all season. We also have a Player of the Month award for Platinum League players. This season our Championship App is now up and running with next season's Platinum League App currently in development.

Each year our Christmas Trophy gives Platinum League players a rest and a chance for newbies to try out the game.

In 2025 Tom Barlow-Taylor relied on the final game, a Chelsea draw against Manchester City, to clinch his place in PG8 history as the only player to win 3 significant prizes. His previous awards include last season's Super Cup and Easter Trophy, so quite the achievement to be so consistent in the space of 17 months. You can check see how Tom and his 15 rivals got on HERE.

Join our E-Mail List to be notified when The Christmas Trophy launches in 2026 or to be reminded when other competitions launch such as our Easter Trophy, Summer Tourney and Season 4. You can find it HERE.

Special mentions most go to Gayle Sawit and John Prescott, our first and second Christmas Trophy winners.

CHRISTMAS TROPHY

Each year our Easter Trophy gives Platinum League players another rest and a chance for more newbies to try out the game.

In 2025 Tom Barlow-Taylor outscored 16 rivals to clinch his second trophy.

Join our E-Mail List to be notified when The Easter Trophy launches in 2026 or to be reminded when other competitions launch such as our Summer Tourney and Season 4. You can find it HERE.

A special mention most go to Boniswa Kubeka who won our first Easter Trophy in 2024.

CHAMPIONS

LEAGUE

For our third season the Super Cup opened it, this 1 week competition being won by Samantha Lane.

We're considering a 1 week Super Cup next season, to open Season 4, in preparation for Week 1 of The Platinum League to kick off on the same weekend the Premier League kicks off.

The League Cup, FA Cup and Champions Cup will also be 1 week competitions, coinciding with the English League Cup and FA Cup Finals and UEFA Champions League Final. Last Season Michael Clarke made it a League Cup double, winning multiple round versions of the game in 2024 and 2025, with Brad Cartwright and Ross Arnell-Smith picking up the FA Cup and Champions Cup respectively, also winning multiple round versions of those competitions. We've gone for the single round versions to ensure that players who may have been knocked out can still play in something every week.

Cup competition rules are similar to the league with players being drawn a cup team (usually half of them a home team and the other half an away team) to determine a winner in the event points are tied. Order rules are published for each cup as and when they're played.

Join our E-Mail List to get details of these competitions when they come up.

Whilst anyone can play the Super Cup, League Cup and FA Cup each time these launch, from Season 4, The Champions Cup requires you to be in the top 8 of either of our leagues to be eligible. That one is for Champions after all.

Each year a summer tournament concludes the season with the winner lifting our ultimate trophy.

Tradition is this trophy is returned to us each year to be engraved and delivered to the next tournament winner.

For the 2024 and 2025 Summer Tourneys, players competed in Group Stages and Knock Out Stages, predicting game outcomes to progress out of their drawn group with the Knock Out Stages being a winner takes all. For 2026 its all players to the final and we're considering an all player version to allow newbies to try the game before Season 4 kicks off.

This season's summer tourney is based on the FIFA 2026 World Cup and qualifying is underway.

There are 2 routes to get to this competition and all is explained HERE.

You can still register to play if you don't qualify through either route, but for this summer tourney, qualifying route 1 not only guarantees your place, bar invite, but also means you'll be drawn the favoured team in the final, which could be crucial on a points tie to determine the winner.

SUMMER TOURNEY

The Platinum League winner each season takes home the greater value of prizes although The Summer Tourney trophy is the one they all want to win ; the ultimate season ending prize. Whilst the league attracts The Platinum League Trophy and a multi-pack choice of favourite beverage for the winner, The Summer Tourney Trophy carries the most prestige with the winner returning it the following summer in preparation for engraving and delivery to the next winner.

Meanwhile, the Super Cup, League Cup, FA Cup and Champions Cup all award a trophy for keeps to each winner, with the Christmas and Easter Trophies offering high cash value Amazon Vouchers or equivalent although Christmas 2025 we broke that tradition. We also have a Player of the Month award with the winner of that getting a £5 Amazon Voucher or equivalent prize although that is consigned to The Platinum League.

For our brand new 2026 Championship, there is a trophy for the winner, but they also get promotion to The Platinum League.

PRIZES

CHARITY POT

This game comes with another benefit. A season's end donation to charity. Throughout the season players can opt to donate their equivalent prize value to charity. That pot builds up and at season's end we donate that amount to a designated charity partner. In our first season, we raised £280.20. As Daniel Prescott's employer EDF Energy kindly supported us, we supported their charity partner Alzheimer's Society, through one of our players who ran a local charity football match. See more @ https://www.justgiving.com/page/hove-charity-match. After our second season, we supported the same event with that match, held in Lancing on 30th May 2025, West Sussex, and we donated our final second season total to it of £180.98, with gift aid and tipping raising that to £226.23. Thanks again to all who gave up their prizes for this worthy cause.

That's a stunning £506.43. In Season 3, we'd like to exceed that amount.

Thus far, Season 3 has £148 in its Charity Pot.
